FAQ
Or you were going to. We saved you a text.
What's the dress code?
Mountain formal: suits or nice separates, dresses or jumpsuits, and absolutely no stilettos: the ceremony's on the grass. Evenings in the mountains can drop to around 10°C (50°F) even in summer, and colder by September, so bring a layer.
Do I need a passport?
Unless you live in Canada, almost certainly, and some of you need a visa or an eTA too. The Travel page has a guide for whichever passport you hold, including how to get a US passport if you don't have one yet. Check yours now: it has to be valid for the whole trip.
Can I bring a plus-one?
If your invitation includes one, the RSVP page will let you add them. If it doesn't, we're keeping things small. Please don't make us have the awkward conversation.
Are kids invited?
As much as we love your kids, this one's adults only. Think of it as a night off in the mountains: book the sitter, stay for the last dance, and sleep in without anyone climbing on you at 6 a.m.
Will there be bears?
Probably not at the wedding. Maybe on your hike. Carry bear spray on the trails, make noise, and never feed the wildlife, including the elk wandering through town who act like they own the place. (They kind of do.)
What if there's wildfire smoke?
Summer is wildfire season in the Rockies, and smoke from fires (sometimes hundreds of kilometres away) can haze over the valley for a day or a few. It usually clears quickly, and if it's bad on the day we'll move inside to the Pavilion. If you have asthma or anything like it, pack your inhaler and a couple of good masks just in case. Canada's smoke forecast shows what's coming a couple of days ahead.
Is the ceremony indoors or outdoors?
Outside, at Silvertip's gazebo looking out over the Bow Valley, if the weather plays along. Mountain weather changes fast, so if it doesn't, we all move inside to the Pavilion.
What about the altitude?
Silvertip sits at about 1,400 m (4,600 ft), on the mountainside above Canmore. Drink more water than you think you need, especially before the open bar.
Do I have to dance?
Yes. You filled out the song request. This is the consequence.

Truly, making the trip to the mountains is the greatest gift you could give us. But if you insist on doing more, we won't put up a fight:
